Our Story

In 2018 Leola Wagner, the founder of the Bear River Writer's Workshop had the opportunity to attend a writer's workshop with her daughter Sarah and good friend Gussie at Utah State University. She recounts, "It was so much fun! I wanted to do it again. The only way I could think to do it was to make one of my own. So I did."

Since then Wagner has invested time and money bringing the Bear Lake Writer's Workshop to life annually. She credits it as her motivation in publishing, and while it has not been easy, her desire to share the joyful experience with others has kept the workshop alive. The Oregon Trail Center has been an instrumental partner, giving the workshop a wonderful venue to host the event each year along with great affordable catering services for the event. 

In 2023 the Bear River Writer's Workshop joined the ranks of non-profits in Idaho. With a new dedicated board the workshop now embarks on a new and exciting journey to grow and continue inspiring young and old writers alike, and invites to you to join them as a fellow writer or sponsor.
